Here are some factors to remember when conducting a hearing test at home or in a recording studio.

First, you will need to prepare several items for an acoustic test. These include a smartphone app, an acoustic probe, a sound meter, and a pencil or pen to take notes. You will also need room to test, modest clothing, and earplugs if you want to block out background noise

Preparation and testing

An acoustic test requires special treatment; you must prepare everything you’ll need beforehand. This includes removing any posters, drapes, furniture, or other objects from the space that could affect the test results. If there are any, it’s best to remove them as soon as possible so they don’t damage the space’s acoustics. You should also cover all windows and vents with black paper or fabric, so no noise escapes during the test. If there are any openings for air circulation, such as ventilation shafts, you should cover them with cotton, so the noise from air circulation doesn’t reach the ceiling and interfere with your test results.
When performing an acoustic test in your home or studio space, measure several points around the space using your app. It will calculate the distance between each probe and create an acoustic map of your room.
